The 2011 Sean F. Mellon Memorial Architectural Scholarship

New York,NY, October 28, 2011 – The New York Council of the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) hosted a gala luncheon, at the UN Millennium Plaza Hotel, presenting the first annual Sean Mellon Memorial Architectural Scholarship to Ms. Lauren Friedrich from theUniversityofFlorida.  Through her academic achievements, recommendations from peers and faculty, and body of work, Lauren was selected from a distinguished field of applicants from around the nation.

Funded by the National SARA Education Fund, this year’s inaugural scholarship program proudly assembled a Board of Governors and committed donors that will direct and maintain the Sean F. Mellon Memorial Architectural Scholarship for years to come.  Ceremonies were concluded with an emotional presentation by Sean’s father, Raymond T. Mellon, Esq. and the presentation of the Scholarship by New York Council President Professor Paul King, ARA and Vice President Keith M. Lucas, ARA.

MJM+A Design Studio Launches YouTube Channel

Manhattan, NY, Monday the 07th of March 2011.

MJM+A Design Studio is launching its new YouTube architectural channel. The channel is currently active and will post new material weekly.    

In our inaugural clip Michael J. Macaluso AIA, FARA Principal of M. J. Macaluso & Associates Architects along with Randhy Rodriguez, designer and film maker, will broadcast in video format a running discussion documenting architecture, art, events, and news. The purpose of this YouTube channel is to excite people about architecture and maintain a dialogue within the architectural community.

Moreover, YouTube members and subscribers of MJM+A Design Studio channel may interact and share their ideas by leaving their comments for discussion based on “comment question” which will follow at the end of each video.

MJM+A, Architects Congratulates Ryan P. Scipione, One of the First “New Years” Architects in New York State for 2011.

Manhattan, NY, Tuesday the 4th of January. The beginning of the New Year found Ryan P. Scipione as one of the first registered architects licensed in the State of New York for 2011. Mr. Scipione is a Graduate from Keene State College’s Honors Architecture Program, and holds a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering. Mr. Scipione has been a respected associate with M. J. Macaluso & Associates, Architects for the past ten years. Mr. Scipione currently performs as a Senior Project manager and has worked on some of the largest projects undertaken by the firm.

His determination illustrates the strong work ethic he possesses, and more reason why MJM+A is proud to announce to the world Mr. Scipione’s accomplishment. Thank you for being a loyal and key employee to our success.

Michael Macaluso AIA, FARA to Attend as Juror this Thursday

Brooklyn, NY, Thursday the 16th of December, Michael Macaluso AIA, FARA has been selected to participate as part of the jury for the Senior Urban Design Studio taught by Prof. Maldonado and Prof. Kevin Hom at the New York City College of Technology. Prof. Maldonado and Prof. Hom will be entertaining a small panel of jurors composed of Michael J. Macaluso AIA, FARA, principal at MJM&A Architects, Shelley Smith PHD, AIA, chairperson of the Architectural Technology Department at NYCCT, Hagen Scutt, Senior Architect at Der Scutt and Tamar Kisilevitz from Scarano Architects. The jury will be reviewing the redesign of three large parcels of land along the highline between 18th and 21st Street for an Urban Design Studio. 

Mr. Macaluso is an active member of the Board of Advisers to NYCCT and frequently enjoys the opportunity to contribute in the academic arena and development of students.

Keith M. Lucas AIA, LEED AP to Attend as Juror this Wednesday

Brooklyn, NY, Wednesday the 15th of December, Mr. Lucas frequently gets the opportunity to attend as juror in the academic world and enjoys observing and evaluating students work. Most recently, he had the honor sitting-in on thesis review at the New York City College of Technology. He and fellow jury had the opportunity to review a variety of projects at select sites throughout the five boroughs. Additionally, Mr. Lucas was invited to participate in the review of a Boutique Hotel Design Studio, given his particular experience and interest in this building typology.

Keith M. Lucas Presented as New Vice President of the Executive Board of SARA

Manhattan, NY, Wednesday the 15th of December – Keith Montgomery Lucas, ARA, AIA, LEED AP will be presented as the new Vice President of the Executive Board to the Society of American Registered Architects’ New York Council during SARA’s annual party at the Häfele showroom. This Wednesday December 15th. The celebration will begin at 5:30pm and is open to all SARA/NY members, friends and industry colleagues. Drinks and fine foods will be graciously provided by Häfele, along with visual presentations highlighting SARA/NY’s 2010 events. Mr. Lucas, and fellow members of the Executive Board, will present goals and agenda items for the upcoming year.
